Ms Sylvia Khoo graduated from the National University of Singapore with a LLB (Honours) degree and was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore in March 1992.
Prior to joining Goodwins in 2007, Sylvia practised as an advocate and solicitor for 9 years handling a myriad of litigation, both civil and criminal, and general solicitors’ work before moving onto in-house positions at Singapore Technologies Kinetics Ltd and Singapore Health Services Pte Ltd where she provided legal support to the management and various departments such as human resource, procurement and business operations in the review of internal documentation and processes, drafting and negotiation of contracts, management of potential claims and advice on legal compliance. She also worked as a legal counsel in a local insurer where she provided legal support in the legal and claims department.
Having been an in-house counsel, Sylvia has a good understanding of the needs of institutional clients and the necessary skills and knowledge to help them meet their goals. Further, having served in various industries, Sylvia is able to provide relevant legal advice and support, aided by her first-hand knowledge of the operational aspects of the specific industry. Sylvia currently oversees the Corporate and Commercial Department at Goodwins Law Corporation. She advises clients on a wide spectrum of commercial transactions and contracts including leases, licences, management services agreements, facilities agreements, supplies agreements, employment issues, intellectual property protection, distributorship and agency arrangements and sale and purchase of company shares and assets.
Sylvia also works in the Insurance and Financial Services Department, advising clients which include life insurers, general insurers and insurance intermediaries such as brokers and financial advisers. Sylvia also advises on the regulatory and compliance aspects of the Personal Data Protection Act 2012, having drafted and reviewed policies and documents for clients from the PDPA perspective.
