Ms Ang Kim Lan graduated with an LL B (Hons) Degree from the National University of Singapore in 1985. She was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore in 1986 and was subsequently admitted as a Solicitor in England and Wales. She is a member of the Society of Trusts and Estates Practitioners (STEP).
Following her graduation, Kim Lan joined the practice of a respected law firm. In 1992, she left Singapore to pursue a two-year post-graduate course in the United States of America. She earned her Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Maryville University of St Louis in 1994. She received the Peter Mortenson Award for Best International Student (MBA) at her graduation.
Prior to joining Goodwins Law Corporation, Kim Lan was a partner with a respected law firm. Her areas of practice include advising several banks and the Central Provident Fund Board as one of their panel lawyers, acting for the major banks in residential, commercial and industrial property transactions, general solicitor’s work and litigation matters.
At Goodwins Law Corporation, Kim Lan oversees the Insurance and Financial Services Department, advising clients who are big players in the rapidly-developing financial services sector both in Singapore and globally. These clients include life insurers, general insurers and insurance intermediaries and financial advisers. She also oversees the Trusts Department, advising clients on how to use trusts effectively as well as advising trust companies on compliance issues.
Kim Lan is highly experienced in regulatory and compliance requirements in the financial services sector, advising insurers on the setting up of branches and subsidiaries in Singapore, applications for insurance licences, the legal and compliance aspects of operational matters, and on the structuring and marketing of insurance products. In the course of work, Kim Lan liaises often with the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
She has drafted and/ or reviewed the terms and conditions of numerous life insurance products such as life policies, term policies, hybrid policies, investment-linked policies (ILPs) with open-ended funds, ILPs with close-ended funds and portfolio bonds, as well as health insurance products, including several Shield plans currently in the market. In addition to the insurance products, she also drafts and/or reviews related product summaries as well as the marketing materials. Kim Lan also advises clients in representations to regulatory authorities including proposals for changes to the law and practices in the insurance and financial industry.
Kim Lan is a member of the Singapore Insurance Institute as well as the Society of the Financial Services Professionals. She is a Commissioner for Oaths and a Notary Public. Kim Lan conducts seminars on issues relating to the Insurance and Financial Services sector as well as trust matters. Kim Lan is currently the Honorary Legal Adviser to the Singapore Insurance Brokers Association.
